GEELONG'S 2007 Brownlow medallist Jimmy Bartel will contest a charge of tripping at the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night.
Bartel was charged with a level one tripping offence against Western Bulldogs youngster Shaun Higgins last Friday.
The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and body contact (one point). This is a total of three activation points, resulting in a classification of a level one offence, drawing 80 demerit points and a reprimand.
He has been suspended for one match in the last three years, which increased the penalty by 10 per cent to 88 demerit points and a reprimand.
Bartel’s teammate Mathew Stokes has accepted a one-match suspension for striking Western Bulldog Liam Picken and Essendon’s Nathan Lovett-Murray has accepted a three-match ban for engaging in rough conduct with Richmond’s Kayne Pettifer on Saturday night.
Both will miss the Essendon-Geelong clash on Sunday.
