Geelong’s All Australian forward Steve Johnson has been cleared by the AFL tribunal.

Johnson was cited by the match revue panel following the Cats win over Hawthorn on Friday night for attempting to strike Luke Hodge.

Johnson could have accepted a guilty plea and been assessed 45 points towards any future suspension, however the Cats was sure of his innocence and took the case to the tribunal.

The Tribunal considered the mercurial Cat’s impeccable record during his previous seven seasons and believed him when he said he was trying to brush off Hodge, whom he was angry at for an incident moments earlier involving teammate Mathew Stokes.

“I believe that if I had of attempted to strike him I would have struck him,” Johnson said.
