Over the past three years Geelong has achieved some amazing results, culminating in premiership wins in 2007 and 2009. One of Hollywood’s leading actors, Guy Pearce, has been with the Cats all the way.
Pearce grew up around Geelong and is a regular at Cats games when he has a break from a hectic filming schedule. And on Monday he was part of a ‘premiership’ team of his own.
Pearce was one of the stars of The Hurt Locker, the movie that took out the Academy award for best picture. Pearce played the Sergeant of a bomb disposal unit based in Iraq.
The actor is popular among the Cats players with his down to earth support of the club, with Pearce mostly sitting in the outer with other supporters on match day. He did spend one game in a different location last year, sitting in the coaches box at the MCG when Geelong took on Carlton late in the season.
The level of Pearce’s standing among the players came the day after the Cats beat St Kilda in the grand final, as he was one of the few non-players invited to a private gathering at The Edge 24 hours after the game.
No doubt the cast and crew of The Hurt Locker will be enjoying a similar celebration tonight.
